Fashion and interior design are two worlds that often intersect, creating a symbiotic relationship where one inspires and influences the other. The runway and the living room may seem worlds apart, but they share a common language of style, color, texture, and the pursuit of beauty. Just as fashion designers curate garments that tell a story, we craft spaces that speak volumes about personality, taste, and lifestyle. This connection between fashion and design is both subtle and profound, revealing itself in the smallest details and the grandest statements.

Our approach to design is a constant intersection of both worlds. “As someone who loves fashion, I always incorporate little hidden secrets such as the fishnet rug that I designed for this project,” explains Lucinda Loya. The aesthetic decisions made in our projects aim to infuse spaces with creativity, elegance, and a touch of whimsy.

Artful Graphic Patterns: A Nod to Handcrafted Luxury
The influence of fashion on design is also evident in the use of patterns. Just as a bold print can define a fashion collection, artful graphic patterns can define an interior space. These patterns often draw inspiration from the textures and designs seen in the fashion world, offering a unique, human-made feel that sets them apart. For example, a rug with a striking organic pattern can serve as the centerpiece of a room, much like a statement piece in a fashion ensemble. These patterns are not just decorative; they tell a story, evoke emotion, and create a sense of place. When carefully selected and paired with complementary furnishings, they can transform a space into a work of art. Lucinda Loya’s designs often incorporate these artful patterns, drawing on her love of fashion to create interiors that feel both unique and personal to the people they are designed for.

Luxe Textiles and Furs: The Ultimate in Comfort and Style
Our use of luxe textiles and furs further enhances this connection, adding a layer of texture and opulence that is reminiscent of high fashion. These elements, whether in the form of a plush fur throw or a velvet pillow, bring warmth and richness to a space, much like a luxurious fabric draped over a model on the runway. Textiles play a crucial role in both fashion and interior design. In fashion, the choice of fabric can define the entire look and feel of a garment. Similarly, in interior design, textiles are key to creating an atmosphere of comfort and style. Luxe textiles and furs, add a layer of luxury and sophistication to a space.

Furs, whether real or faux, bring a sense of warmth and indulgence that is hard to match. They can be draped over a sofa, on a bed used as a rug, or ieven as upholstery ona chair or barstool to add a tactile element that invites relaxation. Similarly, rich fabrics like velvet, cashmere and prima alpaca are often used in upholstery, drapery, and accessories to create a sense of elegance and refinement. These materials not only add comfort but also a sense of timeless style, while also standing the test of time because of their quality. Just as a fur coat or a velvet dress can make a statement on the runway, these textiles can make a statement in a room, adding depth and dimension to the design.

The Power of Details: Piping, Trim, and Tailoring
Fashion is all about the details—those little elements that elevate a garment from simple to exquisite. In the same way, interior design thrives on the details that transform a room from ordinary to extraordinary. Piping and trim, for example, are akin to the fine tailoring seen in high fashion. Just as a well-fitted jacket boasts impeccable seams and structured lines, drapery and upholstered seating in interior spaces can be given a tailored look through the careful application of piping and trim.
Piping, a thin strip of fabric sewn into the seams of furniture or drapery, adds a refined edge that frames the piece, much like the lapel of a designer coat. It’s a small touch, but one that can dramatically change the appearance of a room. The same goes for trim, whether it’s on a roman shade, a sofa, or a bench. These elements add a layer of sophistication, mirroring the tailored precision of a couture dress.
When designing a space, these details are not mere afterthoughts. They are carefully considered components that bring a sense of cohesion and elegance. Much like in fashion, where the right stitching or the perfect hem can make or break a garment, the right piping or trim can elevate the entire design of a room.

A Glimpse into the Future: Our Collaboration with The Rug Company
Looking ahead, our upcoming collaboration with The Rug Company is a testament to the ongoing relationship between fashion and interior design. This partnership will bring together the best of both worlds, combining the creativity and craftsmanship of fashion with the quality and innovation of interior design. While the exact design cannot yet be revealed, we can share a few insights into how it was conceived.
The collection will feature rugs that are not just functional, but also works of art, inspired by timeless fashion details, as opposed to the latest trends. These pieces will incorporate Lucinda Loya’s interpretation of a fashion moment, with intricate patterns that reference a ubiquitous fashion staple, without being too literal. Of course, it will be rendered in luxurious materials, and with a sense of artistry that reflects our commitment to design excellence.
The connection between fashion and interior design has been a constant throughout our firm’s decades of practice. While the stylistic direction has evolved and is tailored to each client, this common thread runs through each and every project. From the smallest details to bold statements, fashion continues to inspire and elevate our designs. As we look to the future, this relationship will only deepen, bringing new possibilities for creativity and innovation in the spaces we create and beyond.
