Designing aesthetic baby room  can be daunting: it should reflect the parent’s taste but be tailored to a baby’s needs. At the same time, it should be timeless. Here are some tips for a not-so-baby-ish, baby room:

Aesthetic Baby Room

Avoid primary colors and pastels – choose muted versions of adult shades, instead. We like to combine unexpected hues such as raspberry and moss green, peacock, salmon and charcoal or rose brown and white. This will make for an unexpected upgrade from the typical baby blues and pinks that are thrown onto almost every child’s walls. We say no – let their room stand out!

To achieve an haute look, you’ll probably have to avoid the bed-in-a-bag. Sleek cribs are cool but be creative with your bed. For later, we like low platform beds. Even Ikea and West Elm have budget-friendly versions of these that are stylish. This detail alone will elevate the space!

Blackout drapes are key if you want to gain minutes of shuteye after sunrise. Think sophisticated drapery, none of that sheer, low thread count nonsense. Go for a double width inlay for the bulk and a dark, contrasting color for the depth. Stray away from busy patterns or textures and instead choose a simple linen that will mesh well with everything else.

Themes are usually a bad idea. Use your favorite themes only as inspiration and imply your ideas throughout colors and finishes. Subtly. Small, hinted details, muted color schemes, or toy accents will leave a cute gesture without going overboard.

Try monogram to personalize the space. They are the perfect mix of playful personalization and sophisticated detail that gives the room an automatic upgrade. Choose to incorporate a monogram on smaller accents such as pillows or wall art to start and leave plenty of negative space surrounding them after.

Have fun with paint: try stripes or color blocking. There are ways to keep the sophistication but also make the room fun. Striping can be done successfully with two colors that sit closely together, whether that be two neutrals or two of the same muted tone.

Wallpaper. Of course. Whether you have a large, awkward wall or want to accent a part of the room, wallpaper can help change the whole aesthetic of the space. We tend to gravitate towards floral or landscape papers to add movement and dimension and, of course, draw the eye inward as a focal point.

A great chandelier and rug take a baby room to the next level. Talk about style meeting comfort. Both need to fit the room proportionally and aesthetically.

Go for quality. Baby rooms don’t have to be plastic and linen. Go for chic by including real art, a great lamp and good-looking fabrics. Remember: the baby will grow! Imagine a young adult might eventually sleep in this room, so as a big picture reminder, don’t emphasis ‘baby’ as much as you should emphasis a reliable space for an easy transition in the future.
